Borrowing winsome kiddos

We're pretty blessed to have dear friends who are young parents because that means we get to be around cute kiddos often. We are partial to baby-sitting intermittently, and this weekend past, we borrowed these dear friends' daughters for a movie date. Taking care of little ones always proves to be a handful of sweetness and fun, which pulls at our heartstrings to want to be parents soon. I mean, kiddos relate the most winsome tales, flash the most endearing smiles, and are exceedingly generous with hugs (which is why I became a teacher, even though I ended up with high-schoolers who bestow upon me fewer smiles than I'd prefer). However, the husband will readily admit that he is content that we haven't the momentous responsibility of parenting just yet, partly because he still wants the uninhibited ability to go on dates to Disneyland, and partly because baby-sitting usually grants us a humbling taste of the role. Apparently, Wreck-It Ralph is too scary for an almost-four-year-old and shall incite in her uncontrollably fearful sobbing in the middle of the theater. And wee ones have to go potty nearly every hour. Though we feel it'd be wise for us to wait a little longer at this point in time before having kids primarily for financial reasons, we shall be overjoyed to have a wee one we can call our own one day. For now, we are more than content with baby-sitting. Parental chummies, we are at your service. We get to play with your adorable kiddos, and you get to go on a hot date. It's a win-win for us all.

  2. You two are so sweet! Those little ones are adorable as well. I love being a mom and both my husband and I wanted to start our family quickly after getting married (which we did) but we do sometimes relish those uninhibited dates of before parenthood. Obviously we wouldn't trade it for the world, but I love that you two are being so intentional with your marriage and plans for parenthood.

  3. You are the best friends ever!!! Wow...seriously.

So sweet that you took them to see the movie (even though the little one was scared)...it is interesting to see what's a little too much for the kiddos.

  7. Babysitting is always a great way to keep that baby fever under wraps. And I can't believe Wreck It Ralph is too scary, but I guess now that I think about it, that seen with the hardcore video game and the scary bug things can be overwhelming.

  8. I know what you mean, I wanted to wait too for the same reason.. but as it turns out, even thought pregnancy is tough babies bring so much joy to your home. I personally think you are never ready for babies. Enjoy your marriage though.. go out and have fun!

  10. My closest friends (with the exception of one) don't have kids yet, but I think it's great to have friends around who want to baby-sit and give the couple some alone time! Gotta keep that romance alive! And also, haha, it seems like baby-sitting is a good dose of the reality into the energy and time it takes to look after kids. I think it's so responsible that you guys are waiting until you're where you want to be financially. Plus, I also think that married couples should enjoy some time being married before they have kids... because once you have them, they're always there! Haha! :) (Joys and blessings, but even in their twenties, sometimes they come back to live!)
