Baby shower season is in full swing in our neck of woods. Alex and I are finding it so sweet and, frankly, fun to share similar seasons of life with some of our dearest friends. A slew of friends and we all got married around 2012, and from 2013 up until now, are having babies. We spent a good part of 2011-2012 immersed in bridal showers and weddings. Now we get to celebrate at baby showers, which is the primary reason we trekked up north a couple weeks ago. We had a summery picnic baby-q shower in the East Bay for Irene and Brian, with some of the tastiest picnic fare ever and hilarious games in the midst of sweet and simple decor. I usually end up doing decor when we're planning an event, which meant Alex got to load the car with not only with our seemingly unending bags and the baby's stuff for our trip, but also baskets and bags of decor (what a swell and patient guy!). We spruced up the park with vintage tablecloths, old tea tins, and some other odds and ends. In lieu of getting fresh flowers, I made dandelions and billy balls out of yarn and skewers to dress up the tables. For the dessert table, I made a simple no-sew circle felt garland, and some blue wooden hearts to embellish the sweet treats, particularly since the parents-to-be announced their pregnancy and baby's gender with blue heart stickers. There was even a piƱata, which one of the girls got custom-made to look like the cutest poop there ever was, if baby fecal matter could look attractive. We all had a grand time celebrating Lummy in Irene's tummy. We are so excited for Irene and Brian, mostly because we can't wait for Serene and Baby Lum to be friends.
