Farm-fresh perspective
Post-baby outings have given us a fresh perspective. When a wide-eyed Serene is wiggling and garbling in wonder at every new sight, we have exponentially more fun delighting in her merriment. Not that Alex's and my dates aren't cherished, but we get to experience everything through a child's eyes. Which means we scope out kid-friendly destinations now. Like when my sweet aunt brought us amazing zucchini nut bread from a local farm a while ago. Visiting a farm piqued our interest, especially when they make delectable baked goods. Then she told us the farm features kid-friendly activities too. Naturally, we had to stop by. We went there last week for family day. The farm was not what I had pictured in my mind. I envisioned ambling around something like this or this, where we'd be fruit-picking, riding ponies, and buying freshly baked bread. Instead, we arrived at a permanent, country-esque fair situated on asphalt. There were farm-style shops for the adults, and attractions for the kiddos. Unfortunately, the carousel, pony rides, and train rides open only on the weekends. Fortunately, the farm wasn't crowded since it was a weekday, so we practiced using a new tripod to acquire some family pictures. We also browsed the stores, bought local goodies, and ate lunch. Though we wanted to take Serene on the carousel, she probably had just as much fun playing with a water bottle, climbing the walls, or looking at produce. I continue to learn that spending time together is what counts, anyhow, no matter what we're doing. That's some good, farm-fresh perspective.

Beautiful pictures as always Helen. I have fun with stephen just the two of us but we really enjoy family friendly/kid outings so I feel like we will have EVEN more fun with a little one someday.
ReplyDeleteI love Tom's Farms! My parents live a few miles away, so we go all the time. I almost didn't recognize it at first because it looks so fancy in your pretty pictures :)
