Advent is such a cherished time for us. Christmas draws near, and with it, the celebration of Christ our Savior's birth. If you ask Serene what Christmas is about, she will respond enthusiastically, "Baby Jesus!" This year's Christmas is a special one. I say that every year, and I suppose every year it's true. There are milestones to commemorate each year at this time. This year is Valor's first Christmas, and Serene's third. It is the first year Serene was able to excitedly participate in hanging ornaments on the tree, as Valor stared transfixed by the glittering lights and bright baubles. I couldn't resist snapping a few pictures as we decorated the Christmas tree last night. I almost didn't since we were still in our pajamas and I hadn't brushed my hair all day. But I'm so glad I did because the pictures came out real and precious. We opted for an artificial tree from here this year. Though we've had a fresh tree every year since we've been married, I am so thankful for an artificial tree I need not worry about tying to the car, securing to a stand, hosing down, watering, or cleaning pine needles until July, particularly since we have two mobile little ones this Christmastide. Better yet, it was on sale for 50% off and we had a gift card when we bought it, and we get to resuse it in the years to come. We hung fabric ornaments I made for our first Christmas, along with other unbreakable (kid-friendly) ones we've collected the last few years while Christmas songs played in the background. Once the tree was decorated, we sang and reflected on the true reason for the season. So thankful for the hope in Christ, especially with all that is going on in the world.
