Roaming the city by the bay
Though we trekked up to NorCal last weekend primarily for a dear friend's bridal shower, the Mister and I had a few hours to roam San Francisco. The quaint Victorian rowhouses lining the thoroughfares are so unique to the city that I find them most endearing - don't you? Haight-Ashbury is my favorite district for it always reminds me of LA's Melrose, so I took the husband there first. Haight-Ashbury's plethora of hole-in-the-wall cafés and vintage shops always pique my interest, but the husband found the neighborhood excessively eccentric. It's amusing to see our traveling preferences emerge over the past few getaways. I often propose visiting points of history-laden culture and local interest. The Mister, on the other hand, loves touristy (often gentrified) hotspots, or as we have come to fondly call them, fake wonderlands. Therefore, he did not care much for Haight-Ashbury's iconic center for the 1960s bohemian and counterculture movement, whose remnants exist to this day. When we arrived at postcard-perfect Ghirardelli Square and Fisherman's Wharf, however, he became as happy as a clam. He even proclaimed that God might be calling us to San Francisco, which he also said about Waikiki while we were on our honeymoon. It was so lovely to be able to enjoy a weekend respite, especially because we also got to spend time with the Youngs! We are looking forward to returning to the Bay in two weeks for our aforementioned friend's wedding, which shall also entail for us a bit of a holiday once more.
