A wild, timeless trek

On Halloween, Alex and I threw on our safari gear and headed into the plains to observe wildlife. We stumbled upon creatures aplenty, but none delighted us as much as a mischievous panda, a big-eared baby elephant, and a mythical unicorn. The unicorn energetically brandished her wand to persuade the panda and elephant to tolerate photos with us, which made the adventure one for the books!

We already had costumes for Halloween when I won the adorable elephant bonnet on an Instagram giveaway a couple of years ago, so neither Serene nor Valor wore it that year. When we got pregnant with Reverie, I knew I wanted our littlest babe to be an elephant for her first Halloween. I wore her in a gray wrap, which made our baby elephant even more endearing. Serene received a unicorn costume for her birthday from her grandauntie comprising of a white leotard and tutu, shiny wings, and unicorn headband. She announced she would be a unicorn for Halloween ever since. Therefore Valor was a panda with a simple mask, baseball tee, and black pants. Alex and I were safari rangers from years gone by, with thrifted shirts, bottoms we already had in our closet, and hats borrowed from a friend. Life is a wild adventure these days, which made the theme fitting. This was the first year one of our kids resolutely decided on her own costume. This was also the first year I didn't make anything for our costumes. I'm hoping there are years of family costumes to come!
