The proudliest sight there is

Greetings from dear old Shiz this Halloween! So excited to dress as characters from Wicked, one of our favorite musicals. Starring Alex as Winkie Prince Fiyero, me as greenified Elphaba, Serene as popular, bubbly Galinda, Valor as Boq the munchkin boy, Reverie as wheelchair-bound Nessarose, and Verity as the lion cub Elphaba and Fiyero rescue.

In an effort to focus on costumes from the Shiz University era, Alex donned a white polo shirt, vest, khaki pants, and oxfords to resemble Fiyero during "Dancing Through Life." I wore a navy peacoat, mid-length navy skirt, thrifted knee-high lace-up boots, crocheted hat, Dollar Store glasses, and green-tinted skin a la Elphaba during "The Wizard and I." Serene pranced about in a flouncy hot pink dress like Galinda's during "Popular". Valor wore a light green collared shirt, printed blue suit, red skinny tie made out of vintage fabric, and a miniature red hat like Boq's. Reverie played Nessarose in a blue schoolgirl jumper (onto which I added white stripes to replicate Shiz's uniform) atop a Peter Pan collared white blouse. It helped that she sat in her wheelchair (toy stroller) the whole time we took pictures. I chanced upon a hardly used lion costume at the thrift store, which I nabbed for Verity so she could be the lion cub Elphaba and Fiyero rescue from a cage in Dr. Dillamond's classroom. I feel this year's family costumes took the longest to find via thrifting, and additional time altering or decorating, probably because my head kept swirling with everything all six costumes needed.

Thankful Alex and the kids obliged to family costumes this year especially since it is Verity's first Halloween. The kids were so excited to learn about who their characters are and dress up as them; it was the proudliest sight there is. What fun it would be to enjoy the show together as a family in the future. Wicked was Alex's and my favorite musical we watched together recently. We actually got into a fight right before the show because I, who was super pregnant with Verity at the time, wasn't sure I wanted to go to a show but Alex spontaneously bought tickets the same day anyway. Once we were there, I was so glad we did end up going because the cast was so amazing, even better than our first times watching it. As Alex joked, he went from "worst husband in the world to best husband in the world all within one night." Not sure people will understand who we're supposed to be, particularly if they don't watch musicals, but we're excited to trick-or-treat with church family tonight!
